From a residential neighbourhood to a cross-border gateway

Bukit Chagar’s recent history includes the flats near the Causeway that were home to local residents. Demolition began in May 2008, marking a change in the area’s urban landscape.

A new chapter followed with the RTS Link. In February 2021, MRT Corp unveiled the winning station façade design, “The Integration of Two”, inspired by the longstanding relationship between Johor Bahru and Singapore.

From a local MRT stop to an international connection

The existing Woodlands North MRT station opened on 31 January 2020 as part of the first stage of the Thomson–East Coast Line, alongside Woodlands and Woodlands South. Its entrance connects directly to Republic Polytechnic.

Construction of the separate RTS Link station began with a groundbreaking ceremony on 22 January 2021. A basement connection to the MRT station will make Woodlands North a gateway between Singapore’s rail network and Johor Bahru.
